Support Syrian Education
Education is fundamental for the growth and stability of any community.
The civil war and reign of ISIS brought the education system to a grinding halt throughout Syria, and many children today have not even attended school in over 7 years.
In Democratic Syria, there are almost 5,000 schools; however, over 100 have been completely destroyed and over 1,000 require some level of repair and reconstruction. The schools that are at a decent level of functionality must educate over 900,000 students daily.
Due to space restrictions and educational requirements for children who have not attended school in almost a decade, teachers are forced to run two shifts a day for each functional classroom. This measure still only brings the student to teacher ratio down to 70:1 when it should be around 25:1.
Democratic Syria has over 43,000 trained teachers ready to work and more children show up daily yearning to learn. We can help them receive the education they so desperately want and so richly deserve.
You Can Help Educate Syria Now
As we mentioned above, Democratic Syria has educators available but needs significant help raising their educational infrastructure to an acceptable level.
Here are some ways you can help:
- 80% of schools lack supplies that are required for students and classrooms. You can purchase a backpack for a child which includes all their school supplies for the year.
- You can also purchase classroom basics such as desks, chalkboard, and collective classroom supplies.
- Learning in each child's native tongue is critical to retain their heritage and identity. Each school, depending on demographics, provides curriculum books in Arabic, Kurmanji (Kurdish), English, and Syriac. Despite internal funding and other aid organizations’ support, schools are critically short of books and need your help.
- School uniforms are important, especially for those children who come from poor families and may not have adequate clothing. Providing uniforms will help under-privileged students feel more comfortable at school with their classmates.
- An “Adopt a School” is also available. You or any group/organization may choose to adopt an entire school and can even specify which region, town, or school you prefer. We will provide point of contact information to the chosen school and give you regular feedback on your adopted schools’ progress along with pictures.
